ANALYZİNG THE CONTENT OF PALESTİNİAN MATHEMATİCAL TEXTBOOKS FOR THE THİRD, FOURTH AND FİFTH GRADES İN THE LİGHT OF THE CONTENT AREA OF ALGEBRA STANDARDS OF THE NATİONAL COUNCİL OF TEACHERS OF MATHEMATİCS (NCTM)
This study aimed at determining the availability of content standards set by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), in the content area of Algebra, in the content of Palestinian mathematics books (3-5) grades. The researcher used the analytical descriptive method for its suitability for study purposes. the researcher prepared the study tool and used it as a reference in the Content analysis of the Mathematics Books for the basic grades (3-5), consisting of six books with two parts for each class. After determining the validity and reliability of the tool and conducting the appropriate statistical treatment, the results showed that the content of the books for grades (3-5) complies with Algebra standards set out by the (NCTM) in varying degrees, and that the content of books on algebra is not consistent with the (NCTM) algebra standards. the study recommended reviewing the Palestinian mathematics textbooks for the grades (3-5). to provide indicators that did not show up in the content of those books. The researcher suggested conducting further studies to determine the availability of (NCTM) algebra standards in the school mathematics textbooks for the other grades.
