FAMILY VIOLENCE DIRECTED AGAINST THE ELDERLY AND ITS PSYCHOLOGICAL AND ‎SOCIAL EFFECTS ‎(A STUDY IN PSYCHOLOGICAL ANTHROPOLOGY - THE CITY OF BAGHDAD AS A MODEL-)‎

First،‎ the research objectives ‎ 1- Knowing the apparent and underlying causes that led to the use of domestic violence ‎against the elderly.‎ ‎ 2- Revealing the impact of psychological،‎ social and economic challenges on the use of ‎violence against the elderly and the extent of the phenomenon's prevalence in society at the ‎current stage.‎ ‎ Second،‎ the topic and importance of the research:‎ ‎Domestic violence is one of the most important problems facing the elderly in the ‎contemporary Iraqi family،‎ given the circumstances and challenges that the family faces in its ‎daily life،‎ the departure of its children to their various interests،‎ and the lack of sufficient time ‎for family interaction and solidarity that existed in the traditional family،‎ which left ‎psychological and social effects on the elderly. The need for this research arose due to the ‎aggravation of the phenomenon in the Iraqi family and the conditions that the elderly suffer ‎from things that are not worthy of their position،‎ which on the one hand is considered a ‎detraction of their roles in their different age stages.‎ Third: Research Methodology: The descriptive analytical method was employed in studying ‎the phenomenon and revealing its apparent and latent causes.‎ ‎ Fourth most important search results:‎ ‎1.‎The research concluded that the percentage of males among the elderly is higher than ‎that of females،‎ as it reached (80%) of the total sample compared to (20%) of women.‎ ‎2.‎The research found that most of the elderly reported that they were subjected to ‎violence by their children (sons،‎ their wives and grandchildren)‎‏,‏‎ and these constituted ‎‎(63%) of the sample size. As for the respondents who were exposed to violence by ‎brothers and sisters،‎ their percentage reached (27%) of the sample size‏.‏ ‎3.‎Leaving domestic violence against the elderly to have serious psychological and social ‎effects as long as it causes them daily suffering and problems.‎ ‎4.‎Most of the elderly suffer from a state of sadness and pain due to the children not ‎communicating with them،‎ visiting them،‎ or even asking about them to check on them،‎ ‎which has become a psychological pressure that affects one way or another on their ‎health and physical condition‎.
