THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE LEBANESE ECONOMY FROM 2000 TO 2020

The Lebanese economy depends on a free system based on private initiative and the economic independence of individuals and their protection. The state has adhered to this system when issuing various economic and financial legislations. It also indicates the adoption of the principle of freedom of exchange, the movement of capital, and the guarantee of deposits and investments, all as a policy to attract and invest capital in Lebanon. Since the middle of 2000 and after the Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, Lebanon has witnessed good economic developments, especially since successive governments have suffered from crises and political turmoil that affected the Lebanese economy in all its aspects, which affected the economy’s contraction from an expected growth rate of 6 percent by mid-2006 to 2-3 percent growth for the same year, and all these crises and repercussions led to a noticeable decline in the Lebanese economy in the last two decades.
